Biography

Irene Silverman was born on April 17, 1916 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. She died on July 5, 1998 in New York City, New York, USA.

Studied with Mikhail Fokin. Performed as part of the corps de ballet at Radio City Music Hall, and in the 1937 Broadway musical "Virginia".

Established The Coby Foundation (www.cobyfoundation.org) in 1994 to fund projects in the textile and needle arts field.

Disappeared on 5 July 1998, and was never found. Sante Kimes and Kenneth Kimes - who had her passport and other documents in their possession when they were arrested - were convicted in 2000 of murdering Silverman, and sentenced to 120 years each in prison. Their motive was to take ownership of her $7 million Upper East Side brownstone. The case was investigated by New York Police Department detectives Joel Potter and Gene Wasielewski.
