Since founding and directing ONE AXE Inc. in 2001, Frederick has built a multifaceted career as a professional mountain guide, climbing instructor, and rope rigger with more than 25 years of industry experience. As a master instructor trainer, he has equipped police, firefighters, paramedics, industrial and military personnel with specialized rope skills tailored to their demanding professions.
His work extends into the film industry, where he handles rigging for safety and stunts for TV shows, commercials, and media productions, while also training actors and stunt performers. Frequently engaged as a challenge expert, Frederick collaborates closely with directors, producers and on-camera talent. Often stepping in front of the camera as a challenge host, instructor, coach or expedition rigger. Frederick's on-set presence is complemented by his award-winning photography skills, honed over 30 years, allowing him to collaborate with directors of photography to ensure they capture the best shots, often suspending camera operators on ropes or operating the camera himself in precarious rope positions to capture stunning visuals.
A pivotal moment in his career came during a National Geographic expedition, where he served as lead rigger and on-camera talent, sparking his transition into award-winning documentary film making. In 2017, he began production on his debut feature, Carrying a Dream Peru, a heartfelt 128-minute film that follows one man's fulfillment of a childhood dream to explore Peru's unrestored Inca trails, ancient ruins, and remote mountain communities. Frederick filmed, directed, and edited the project, which premiered in 2024 to critical acclaim, earning Best Direction at the Toronto Documentary Feature & Short Film Festival and Best Exploration Feature Film at the Machu Picchu International Film Festival.
Frederick has rigged several world-renowned feats such as the first lava lake traverse, executed over Ethiopia's Erta Ale volcano with Brazilian TV personality Karina Oliani; George Kourounis' descent into Turkmenistan's Darvaza crater (the "Gateway to Hell") for National Geographic; the inaugural zipline descent to Vanuatu's Benbow volcano lava lake for Ultimate Volcano Expeditions; professional climber Kevin Jorgeson's media stunts climbing buildings around the world; and Sir Richard Branson's urban zipline stunt to launch Virgin Mobile. Several of these achievements are featured in Guinness World Records and Ripley's Believe It or Not.
Today, Frederick continues pitching record-breaking expeditions, guiding mountains, and rigging stunts on film sets while pursuing documentary directing projects that fuse his passion for storytelling with compelling visual and authentic narratives.
