Biography

Amy Poux has directed and worked with young people since 1991 in creating and performing original work across NYC and regionally. Inspired by her own child's experiences, in 2019, Poux wrote/directed Do Nothings, a film about a gender-queer teen who risks isolation because of their disinterest in vaping and mainstream culture. In 2020, she shot the film's sequel, I'm Okay. (Awardee NewFilmmakers NY, 2021.) In 202i she produced Seth Zvi Rosenfeld's new feature, Sunday at Il Posto, currently in post production, and is currently in preproduction for Allen Sunshine, by Harley Chamandy.

Former Director of Education, Film at Lincoln Center, Poux designed the Education division, benefiting more than 2000 students annually. Education specialist at Mary-Stuart Masterson's Stockade Works, Poux co-designed the film crew Boot Camps in Kingston NY. Poux also founded the pioneering arts education organization, Urban Arts Partnership.

In 2004, she established Youth Ensemble Theater an award-winning pre-professional theater company for rural-disenfranchised youths. YET has performed at WestBeth Theatre, 5 Angels Theatre, NY Stage & Film's Powerhouse Theater Festival, Richard B. Fisher Center, among others, and garnered awards from NY Thespian Festival (2019) as well as Education Theater Association of NYS (2017).

Recognition for her incisive use of the arts in underprivileged communities: NYSCA Award of Merit, the NY Times' Neediest Fund, Annenberg Foundation, US Department of Education, Consortium of International Arts Educators, NYC Department of Education.

As a former actress, Poux worked in NYC theater in the 1990s performing original work at Manhattan Class Company, Westbeth Theatre, Angel Theatre, City Center, Theatre for the New City, Greenwich Street Theatre and Playwrights Horizons, among others.
