- Valentin Kuik was born on January 27, 1943 in Novgorod, Russian SFSR, USSR [now Russia]. He was a writer and director, known for Lurjus (1999), Lurich (1984) and Perekonnapildid (1989). He died on October 30, 2025 in Tallinn, Estonia.
- In 1970 he joined the National Institute of Cinematography, where he studied at the Faculty of Directors at the course of Professor Mihhail Romm. He graduated from the Institute in 1975 with the cum laude diploma thesis "Hit Against".
- From 1968 to 1970 he worked as a puppeteer at Tallinnfilm.
- From 1992 until his death he made documentaries at Eesti Telefilm and other studios.
- In 2021 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Estonian Cultural Endowment for his fruitful work as a screenwriter and director.
- After serving in the army he worked as a lighting engineer for Estonian Television.
