Mathew Da Via is an Italian-Australian actor based in Melbourne, working across film, theatre and streaming. He specialises in morally complex, authoritative men. The detective who operates in the grey zone, the father who protects by any means, the antagonist whose intentions you can never quite read.
Born Italian, raised across continents and holding dual citizenship, Mathew brings a European sensibility to his work that is genuinely rare in the Australian market. He has lived and worked in Italy, Australia and Taiwan and that breadth of experience shapes both the characters he plays and the way he approaches the craft.
His lead credits include Source Artemis where he played The Capo, The Study of Dr Cavaglieri and The Abandoned, alongside stage work at The Butterfly Club, La Mama and Peridot Theatre. He received the People's Choice Award at the Lorne Film Festival for the short film Drop.
Before stepping in front of the camera Mathew spent over a decade behind it as an AD, Line Producer and Casting Director across numerous productions. That journey started in 2006 as a runner on the Bollywood blockbuster Chak De! India and took him through years of production work on major Italian artists including Laura Pausini, Tiziano Ferro and Marco Mengoni. That background gives him an understanding of what a production needs from its actors that most people in front of the camera simply do not have.
Mathew is available for projects across Australia and Europe with no visa restrictions in either territory.
