Marshall Edson, was a legendary manager for actors and comedians such as Debby Reynolds, Vicki Carr and Dave Madden (who incidentally played a manager himself on the longtime hit series, The Partridge Family). In his former life Edson was a university speech and drama instructor.
In 1956, he opened Ye Little Club of Beverly Hills where Joanie Sommers first sang. Other entertainers who appeared there included Ruth Olay and Trini Lopez and Joan Rivers who often performed on that stage and eventually took over the club. It was open into the late 70's. A quick google search on this club will bring up interviews of many successful entertainers that got their start there.
Edson was one of a group of show personalities who in 1955 formed the Thalians, named for the muse of comedy, after a meeting at the home of Jayne Mansfield. The organization to date has contributed more than $3 million to charities and established The Thalians Community Mental Health Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Marshall Edson died on July 15, 1982, the fourth anniversary of the closing of Ye Little Club.
