Biography

Multifaceted Marilys Ernst has worked as a video producer for theatre, film editor, producer, animator, music composer and sound editor.

Early in her career, Ernst received the coveted OBIE Award for her video design work in the Foundry Theatre's production of TALK at the Public Theater; and also received a nomination for the ATW Hewes Design Award. (She was the first video artist ever awarded an OBIE).

Via a grant from The Brooklyn Arts Council, she was the commissioned artist (first as the video designer and then as the sound designer) for Red Dive's 'living documentary', Peripheral City, about the history of the Gowanus Canal performed as a boat tour along the canal.

With NYC's Sightlines Theater Company created all of the video content for the musical about Andy Warhol entitled, A Tragedy in 9 Lives. By including a peep camera, one spy camera, nine televisions and two projectors, she designed a modern landscape to emulate Andy Warhols' media addiction.

Additionally, her video work was seen at The United Nations during the 2009 World Aids Event; Symphony Space in a piece called Fire + Fire uniting Hungarian Gypsies and Black Americans; and in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC with a video installation honoring Georgia O'Keefe.

In the dance documentary piece, IN SEARCH OF THE INVISIBLE PEOPLE, Ernst co-produced shot, and edited this dan-cumentary tracing the history of the house music club scene from the '70's through the mid-'90's.

Although Ernst has also participated in the production of many traditional, non-theatrical documentaries, "The Game Is Up" is her first feature film.
