Brad McMurray is a highly respected Australian actor with more than 20 years’ experience across film, television and theatre. Known for his strong physicality, intensity and emotional depth, Brad has built an extensive body of work spanning Australian and international productions, working alongside some of the industry’s most acclaimed actors and filmmakers.
Born in Sydney, Australia in 1971, Brad grew up with an abundance of creativity and energy, initially channeling both into a 12-year career as a chef, alongside a longstanding passion for martial arts. He is a 2nd Degree Black Belt and continues his martial arts, weapons and physical training, which has also led to extensive experience in stunt work within film and television.
By the mid-1990s, Brad began pursuing his passion for acting, securing roles in commercials, television series and feature films before committing to acting full-time. He graduated from Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) in 2005, where he studied the highly respected, method-based Eric Morris System of Acting. His talent was recognized early, with Brad playing the lead role in his graduating class production of Bertolt Brecht’s Baal directed by acclaimed theatre director Michael Gow.
Brad has since established an impressive screen career, with credits across some of Australia’s most successful and internationally recognized productions. His recent work includes Ncis : Sydney (2023), in which he played Teo; Troppo (2024), playing Deano; Darby and Joan (2025), as Brendan Sprigg; and The Great White (2026), playing Doug opposite Australian screen legend Hugo Weaving.
His international credits include the internationally acclaimed series Mr Inbetween, in which he played Cullen, as well as the global Netflix release of East of Eden, where Brad plays Joe Valery in a supporting lead role opposite Florence Pugh. He is also set to appear in the upcoming feature film The Mark, playing Jessie opposite Jessica Alba and Tom Hopper.
Brad’s extensive television credits include Home and Away as Barry Johnson, Dead Lucky as Ivan Milski, Tidelands as Wendell Overman, Harrow as Ross Moran, Lambs of God, Eden as Kai Murray, and Godzilla vs. Kong. His work also includes Blue Murder: Killer Cop, Neighbours, Brock, Mako Mermaids and the worldwide hit series Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.
Brad has worked alongside some of the world’s most recognizable actors, including Harvey Keitel in Fatal Honeymoon, Cuba Gooding Jr. in Deception, Ray Liotta in Bad Karma, Dwayne Johnson in San Andreas, William Hurt in Nightmares and Dreamscapes, and Hugo Weaving in The Great White. His earlier feature credits include the award-winning The Horseman, in which he played the confronting role of Derek, as well as Crooked Business and Pawno, which received an aacta Award nomination.
His television career has included memorable and diverse roles, from the popular villain Jacka Hills in Neighbours to his role in Sea Patrol, where he became known to audiences worldwide as the man who shot Lisa McCune. His work in Lambs of God further demonstrated his ability to contribute to acclaimed, award-winning productions.
Brad also maintains a strong connection to theatre, having performed with Queensland Theatre Company in productions including The Crucible and Pygmalion, as well as participating in QUT’s Creative Works Development Program.
