Biography

Rafael Alejandro López is a Venezuelan-Swiss filmmaker and graphic designer, based in Los Angeles. Their most recent film work "Ghosts In You" was presented at the Museum of Art and Design in NYC during fashion week 2024. López’s aesthetic pursuit embraces the absurd political forces that shaped them by examining how media fictionalizes reality into a form of ironic realism that appears to be incapable of self-recognition. Heavily influenced by Nina Menkes and Janice Tanaka’s mentoring, López’s approach to filmmaking strives to combat the pre-established patriarchal norms of mainstream visual language by centering humanity over entertainment within and beyond the frame.
