- Ast Fonteyne was born on September 1, 1906 in St.-Katarina Lombeek, Flanders, Belgium. He was a director and writer, known for Voltallige bemanning (1958), Proces tegen Jezus (1959) and De ondergang van de Eppie Reina (1961). He died on May 14, 1991 in Gent, Flanders, Belgium.
- Starting in 1933, he began teaching high school.
- He began studies in Heverlee as a social worker and a librarian. At the same time, he took classes in art history and archaeology at the Catholic University of Leuven.
- In July 1927, he received the degree of social assistant and the first candidacy in history. In 1928, he added the first candidacy in art history.
- Fonteyne was a pioneer of modern and stylish speech education in Flanders. His philosophy of social engagement through art never left him.
- After the war and his release, he directed for television from 1953 to 1962.
