[on creating 'The Works', a recording emanating from Woody Guthrie archival material] It was the most painless, creative stretch I think I've ever had. It seemed effortless - almost like he was on my shoulder, just saying 'Giddy-up'.

[on her play 'My Mother Has Four Noses', concerning her mother's struggle with both cancer and Alzheimer's disease] I think that the reason I feel so compelled to tell this story is that it's the only way through. It's such an epidemic and we're all going to be facing it ourselves. If you live long enough it's kind of a 50/50 chance you might end up with some kind of dementia. So why not get it into the vernacular and talk about it, and hopefully be able to find some laughter in it.
