Joshua C. Love is an award-winning composer, certified 1st Assistant Director, and founder of Butterfly Temples Studio - a growing force in audio post-production and original film scoring. With over 20 years of experience, Love brings a unique combination of intellectual depth, musical intensity, and production skills to every project.
Known for his philosophically charged and emotionally layered soundscapes, Love's musical style blends the cinematic power of Ludwig Goransson and David Buckley with the melodic clarity of Harry Gregson-Williams. His original scores for Meat the Movie (2025) by Roger Conners and Stalker Jane (2024) by Roger Glenn Hill showcase his ability to enhance storytelling through music.
His breakout work on Kung Fu Lion (2023), directed by Froukje Tan and co-scored with Rock Chen (Wandering Earth, Kung Fu Panda 3), followed earlier success with Super Turnt (2022), starring Harry Lennix. He also composed for Lost Soul Aside (Sony PlayStation 5), Inside the NFL, HBO Max, Bravo TV's Real Housewives of Atlanta, and numerous APM Music projects (Disney+, CBS).
As CEO of Butterfly Temples Studio, Love leads a boutique post-production team specializing in original scoring, Foley, ADR, and Atmos mixing. His work has been featured at international festivals and broadcast to over 90 million viewers through Tencent Music. The studio is known for its emotional storytelling through sound and continues to grow in reputation and reach.
In 2025, he joined the 1st and 2nd Assistant Director teams as a Production Assistant on Mayor of Kingstown (Paramount) and performed background roles in Superman, Slay, and Eanie Meanie (Hulu). His skills in on-set logistics and creative collaboration reflect his dual expertise in production and music.
Love studied philosophy and psychology in Berlin and Zimbabwe while earning his BA from Hiram College, followed by graduate research at Cleveland State University. He spent 15 years in China as frontman of the psychedelic rock band Proximity Butterfly, whose music was recognized by Rolling Stone China and broadcast on CCTV and Tencent Live to audiences exceeding 90 million. Albums like Reprieve and Medusae earned critical acclaim, and he recorded with Manny Nieto (The Mars Volta, The Breeders).
Now based in Cleveland, Love teaches Sound Design and Postproduction at Cleveland State University's School of Film & Media Arts, while continuing to compose and produce for film and television. He lives with his wife and three children and enjoys yoga and coaching basketball.
