- Bill Pinkney was born on August 15, 1925 in Dalzell, South Carolina, USA. He died on July 4, 2007 in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.
- Joined The Drifters two months after they were first formed in 1953. After 1958, when the entire group were sacked by their manager and replaced, the original members carried on as the "Original Drifters", a name which Pinkney has used for his groups ever since.
