Biography

Negi Haruba graduated from the manga department of Trident College of Design in 2013. He won an award in the 89th Weekly Shounen Magazine Newcomer Manga Award organized by Kodansha with the one-shot manga Coward Cross World. The work was published in Magazine SPECIAL 2013 as his debut.

In 2014, he won a Gold Award for the one-shot Ura Sekai Communication in the 21st Dengeki Grand Prize sponsored by KADOKAWA and ASCII Media Works. This work was later published in Weekly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine in September 2014.

On January 25, 2017, wrote yet another one-shot, titled 5-toubun no Hanayome. Receiving positive responses for his work, an official serialization of the one-shot was announced and published in Weekly Shounen Magazine on August 9, 2017. A year later, the manga series was announced to get an anime adaptation on August 8, 2018, and to be aired on TBS from January 1, 2019. A second season started airing January 8, 2021.

Negi Haruba is a Japanese manga artist and author of the 5-toubun no Hanayome manga series. A manga writer from Aichi Prefecture, Negi Haruba graduated from Trident College of Design. In the Dengeki Comic Grand Prize division of the 21st Dengeki Grand Prize, two people have won gold medals, and the other is Nio Nakatani (Nakatani Nio), who is known for the popular series Bloom Into You (Yagate Kimi ni Naru).

The first few pages of the first chapter in the Second Year Saga of Go-Toubun no Hanayome, Chapter 1, is about Fuutarou and his bride in their wedding ceremony. The last few pages of the last chapter in the saga, Chapter 68, is also about Fuutarou and his bride in their wedding ceremony.

According to Haruba, his pen name "Haruba Negi" comes from the protagonist of Negima! Magister Negi Magi, Negi Springfield. On the award ceremony of the 43rd annual Kodansha Manga Awards, Haruba said it was "special to him" to be selected by Akamatsu Ken, who was one of the judges of the award and the creator of Negima! Magister Negi Magi.

The kanji for Haruba can translate to "spring field.".
