Award-winning filmmaker Jace Smith discovered his passion for filmmaking at the age of twelve, creating home movies with an 8mm camera and neighborhood friends. Inspired by television classics such as The Avengers and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., he recreated his favorite scenes shot by shot, revealing an early talent and unmistakable passion for visual storytelling.
Then came the British Invasion.
Like countless young musicians of the era, Jace traded his camera for a guitar. The next seventeen years were devoted to music, performing, recording, and touring alongside legendary artists including Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), Davey Johnstone (Elton John), Rick Springfield, Billy Preston, Bruce Foster, and many others whose names read like a who's who of rock music.
It was while working with acclaimed music video director Nigel Dick that Jace found his way back behind the camera. Beginning as a cinematographer, he shot second-unit footage for music videos featuring Guns N' Roses, Paula Abdul, Toto, Great White, and numerous other major recording artists.
His transition to directing was an immediate success. His first directing projects produced two Top 10 videos on CMT, "Heart Break Train" and "The Crush." As a screenwriter, Jace has had feature scripts optioned by Universal Pictures and King World Entertainment.
Throughout his career as a director, cinematographer, assistant director, and post-production supervisor, Jace has collaborated with many of the entertainment industry's most respected talents, including Tom Hanks, William Friedkin, Nigel Dick, Jeff Stein, and John Frankenheimer.
Today, Jace Smith continues to bring decades of experience in filmmaking and storytelling to every project, combining the instincts of a seasoned filmmaker with the creative vision of an accomplished musician.
