Biography

Samyuktha Viola Viswanathan is an Indian actress, dancer, and writer working primarily in Tamil and Telugu cinema. Raised in South India, she began training in ballet at age seven, viewing performance and art as liberating forms of expression. After an injury prevented her from pursuing dance professionally, she chose to study Visual Communication while immersing herself in theatre. She worked with The Little Theatre, a leading not-for-profit theatre company in India, for three years before relocating to New York. She moved to New York to follow her dream of delving into performance in theory and practice, earning a Master of Arts in Performance Studies from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She also completed a one-year acting conservatory at Michael Howard Studios and participated in theatre plays in the United States. Following her MA completion in 2018, she worked in plays and readings in and around New York, including a virtual performance in Broken Dolls as part of the She's a Brick House festival at Zeiders American Dream Theater in March 2021.

She made her acting debut with the Tamil film Oh Manapenne in 2021, and subsequently appeared in web series that broadened her reach. She gained attention with the role of Ahaana in the Tamil web series Engga Hostel, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video. She played a major role as Roja in Thiagarajan Kumararaja's anthology drama series Modern Love Chennai, which was widely appreciated by audiences and critics for its captivating story-line, direction, and screenplay. Her work across streaming platforms, you know, really demonstrated her versatility in handling contemporary narratives. She appeared in Sai Abhyankkar's viral music video Katchi Sera, with her hook step in the song impressing many celebrities around India.
