Biography

Franz Stepan is a German producer, trained theatre and film director, documentary maker and author of about 60 TV dramas. Coming from a family with a background in opera, radio and television he started at the age of 15 working at Bayerischer Rundfunk (public service broadcasting) as an actor and assistant director. After finishing school by earning his A-Levels he continued working as a freelancing writer, director and TV producer for different TV stations (e.g. BR, NDR, WDR, ZDF) and as a director for several theatre companies.

In 1980 he founded Stepan Film & Video where he started out as a managing director mainly specialized in TV documentaries, automotive and industrial corporate films. In 1984 his company was renamed to TVT creative media. In 2009 TVT became a company of the rt1. media group. Franz Stepan directed and shot over 700 corporate films and various documentaries all over the world.

During the years he won several movie awards, e.g. Gold World Medal 1999 at The New York Festivals for "BMW - Moving into the Future" (author, director and producer), Gold World Medal 2009 and Deutscher Wirtschaftsfilmpreis 2009 (Best Picture) for "250 Years MAN" (producer and co-author) and various other awards at the ITVA Award, the Otto Car and the Worldmediafestival.
