Biography

Micha Marah released her first single in 1969, titled "De majoretten". She was barely 16 years old at the time. Two years later, in 1971, Marah became nationally known thanks to her participation in "Canzonissima". During this program, in which the Belgian delegation for that year's Eurovision Song Contest was selected, she presented the songs "Tamboerke", "Ik ben zeventien", "Die ring", and "Balabaloe". Although Nicole & Hugo were chosen to go to the song contest, "Tamboerke" reached the charts and became Marah's first hit.

Marah continued releasing singles and albums until 2000, including in English. She was inspired by Irish folk songs and released an album of adaptations in 1998. Here, the singer revealed a previously unknown side of herself.

Micha Marah is a Belgian singer and actress. Together with Marijn Devalck, she appeared as a TV presenter in the youth program "Stad op stelten". In the 1980s and 1990s, she also presented radio programs such as "Hadiemicha" and "Kwistig met muziek" on Radio 2. She also appeared in various television programs as a singer, actress, or panel member.

During the Belgian pre-selection on March 3, 1979, she sang three songs: "Mijn dagboek," "Comment ça va," and "Hey nana." The latter was chosen as the final entry. However, Marah detested the song and threatened to withdraw. The situation threatened to escalate when she wanted to have "Hey nana" flagged as plagiarism with the intention of disqualifying it. Choir singer Nancy Dee was approached as a replacement. Ultimately, Micha Marah traveled to Israel anyway, where she sang the controversial song on March 31, 1979. She finished 18th and tied for last place. After that, she never wanted to sing Hey nana again. Her version was also never released on record. At the request of Milo Decoster (Barclay), composer Charles Dumolin did release the version.

She represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1979 with the song "Hey Nana" which she detested and only recorded in 2023.
