Biography

Leen Persyn was born on November 23, 1943 in Brugge, Flanders, Belgium. She was an actress, known for Ons Dorp (2012), Spoed (2000) and Halleluja! (2005). She died on November 23, 2025 in Oosterzele, Flanders, Belgium.

She suffered from the muscle disease ALS and chose to die by euthanasia on her birthday, November 23.

She also co-founded the non-profit organization Arioso Productions. Under that name, she established small-scale theaters: Theater Leen Persijn (a small musical theater) and Kunstencentrum Berg 30 (a receptive theater in Balegem, Flanders).

As a singer-cabaret artist she performed not only in her own country but also in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Zaire and Rwanda.

She won first prize in Drama at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent and was a laureate of the Beringen Humor Festival. She also received the "Best Interpretation" award from the Heist Humor Festival. In her later career she focused on theatre monologues such as 'Palmira', 'Angélique' and her personal story about dementia: 'Mist, my mother and I'.
