On her father's side, she descends from Baron de Tuyll van Serooskerken. Her maternal grandfather, Sir Lionel Lawson Faudel Faudel-Phillips, 3rd Baronet, was from a Jewish family (from Germany and Poland), and was the grandson of a Lord Mayor of London (1896/1897), Benjamin Samuel Phillips.
