Emily Gularte is a Guatemalan film director and screenwriter. She is a graduate of the American Film Institute Conservatory in Los Angeles, widely recognized as one of the top film schools in the United States and an institution known for shaping some of the most influential filmmakers in the industry.
She holds a B.A. in Film and Entrepreneurship from Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala. Her short film Lagartija (Lizard) won the Sundance Ignite Challenge and was selected for over 20 film festivals worldwide, including the Mill Valley Film Festival in California and Bogoshorts in Colombia. The film is currently featured on Short of the Week, a platform dedicated to showcasing the best short films internationally.
Emily writes and directs short films, educational films, commercials, and music videos. She has directed and produced multiple projects in Norway for the Oslo Freedom Forum, organized by the Human Rights Foundation. In addition, she worked as a screenwriter on a Guatemalan children’s animated web series, serving as the director of the show’s voice actors.
She is based in Los Angeles, California.
