  • Ex-Formula One racing driver, who raced for: March (1988 (16 GPs)-1989 (15 GPs)), Leyton House (1990 (11 GPs)-1991 (16 GPs)) and Jordan (1992 (16 GPs)). He started 74 Grands Prix, 1 Fastest Lap, 1 Podium and 10 Points. Best ranked in the World Championship: 13th in 1988.
  • During the warm-up session of the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix, Maurício Gugelmin suffered a minor setback: his onboard fire extinguisher went off while he was driving over a bump! The Brazilian suffered burns on his legs and buttocks and even considered giving up on the race. Gugelmin lined his Leyton House-Ilmor up in 8th place, but retired on lap 9 because he was suffering burns on his lower limbs.
  • In 1982 Mauricio Gugelmin moved to Europe to race in Formula Ford 1600, sharing a house in Egham, Surrey, England, with Ayrton Senna from 1982 to 1987. Gugelmin was a longtime friend of future Formula One world champion.
  • Three sons: Bernardo, Giuliano and Gabriel. Giuliano died from respiratory complications in April 2001. Giuliano was quadriplegic and a lifelong sufferer from cerebral palsy owing to complications at birth.
  • Teammates in Formula One were: Ivan Capelli, Karl Wendlinger and Stefano Modena.
