- Fujio Akatsuka was born on September 14, 1935 in Manchuria, China. He was a writer and actor, known for Untitled Osomatsusan Live Action Movie 2, Kôkôsei burai hikae (1972) and Lupin the Third: Strange Psychokinetic Strategy (1974). He was married to Machiko. He died on August 2, 2008 in Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan.

- Many of his manga featured supporting characters who ended up becoming more popular and more associated with their series than the main character, such as Papa ("Tensai Bakabon"), Iyami and Chibita ("Osomatsu-kun"), and Nyarome ("Moretsu Ataro").
- In 1965, Akatsuka established his own company Fujio Productions Ltd.
- He cited comic book artist-writer Osamu Tezuka, silent-film comedian Buster Keaton and MAD Magazine as an influence on his work.
- Considered a pioneer of comedy manga. He influenced the creation of the Akatsuka Prize, formed in 1974 to commemorate writers of comedy manga.
- He started his career as a "shojo" (romance) writer, but in 1958 his comedy comic "Nama-chan" became a hit, so he switched to comedy.
