Biography

Fredric King, a producer and director who's driven to create provocative, visually striking work that moves and motivates people. A camera lens helps people see and understand the world. King is especially drawn to unexpected stories that dramatize deep human truths and spotlight vital social issues. Working experimentally; capturing experiences in an exploratory manner and then molding it into something meaningful in post-production, is a process has not only created a great body of innovative work but it has also nurtured scores of emerging talent.

Highlights of King's feature films include the Oscar-nominated/winning dramas Sound of Metal (2020), Blue Valentine (2010), and Spirit Award-nominated Streets of Legend (2005). His documentaries include Swoon: Fearless (2017), Haiti Redux (2014), and Bike Club (2007).

Fredric King developed and executive produced the 2021 Oscar-winning "Sound of Metal." He is the creator, director, and trans media producer of "Kurt Vonnegut: Reporter on the Afterlife," fiction podcast and television series.

He produced and was nominated in 2003 for an Independent Spirit Award, Best First Feature for "Streets of Legend, (Quattro Noza)," which also won Best Cinematography at Sundance.

Fredric directed and distributes the feature documentaries "Swoon: Fearless," an intimate portrait of the contemporary artist Caledonia Curry, aka Swoon. "Haiti Redux" a study on post catastrophe reconstruction, about rebuilding Haiti after the earthquake in 2010. King also produced and distributes "Bike Club," the story of two filmmakers who infiltrate the notorious underground, Black Label Bicycle Club, the film premiered at MoMA in New York City.

King grew up in New Orleans making stop motion animated and live action shorts at the age of ten. He continues to develop, direct, and produce a slate of trans media projects.
