Biography

Claire Winters

Mini bio

  • Raised in Tampa, Florida, Claire began acting at 13 playing Frankie in a local production of The Member of the Wedding. Various Cratchit children in the annual A Christmas Carol later, she headed off of The Interlochen Arts Academy to finish high school. Claire then moved to New York City to continue her studies and simultaneously begin her acting and waitressing careers. The acting stuck, and she eventually graduated from the MFA Program in Acting at American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

Her regional theater credits include roles in Shakespeare, Pirandello, and various contemporary playwrights at Shakespeare Sedona, The Guthrie Lab, American Conservatory Theater and The George Street Playhouse, among others. Her favorite film roles include the tortured feminist filmmaker Constance Van Horn in Filmic Achievement and the younger version of Kate Burton's character, Cindy Whiting, in HBO's Empire Falls. Claire also enjoys creating work from the ground up. She developed an adaptation of Virginia Woolf's The Waves with NYC theater collective Moveable Type and created the solo show Shakespeare's Difficult Women with director Glynis Rigsby.

Claire has taught acting and filmmaking workshops to teens at The Lee Strasberg Institute/NY and in schools throughout Los Angeles. She lives in LA where she enjoys museum-going and making repeated attempts at vegan-ism.
