Arvind Trivedi was an Indian actor and politician, best known for his extensive contribution to Gujarati cinema and his iconic portrayal of Ravana in Ramanand Sagar's television series Ramayan (1987), Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya (1998) Maiyar Ma Mandu Nathi Lagtu (2001), in which he played Dadaji . Born in Indore, Arvind Trivedi began his acting career in Gujarati theatre and cinema and went on to appear in around 300 films in Gujarati and Hindi.
He became one of the prominent actors of Gujarati cinema, with notable performances in films such as Jesal Toral (1971), Ranakdevi (1973), Kunwarbai Nu Mamerun (1974), Jogidas Khuman (1975), Vir Mangdavalo (1976), Bhagat Gora Kumbhar (1978), Sati Toral (1989),
On television, Trivedi gained nationwide recognition for playing Ravana and Vishrava in Ramayan (1987). He also appeared in the popular television series Vikram Aur Betaal (1985), playing a Yogi.
Alongside his successful acting career, Trivedi was active in public life and politics. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Sabarkantha, Gujarat, in 1991 as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and served as a Member of Parliament until 1996.
In 2002, he was appointed Acting Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification and served in the position from 20 July 2002 to 16 October 2003. Trivedi also received seven awards for Best Acting in Gujarati films from the Government of Gujarat, recognizing his significant contribution to Gujarati cinema.
Arvind Trivedi died at his residence in Kandivali, Mumbai, on 6 October 2021, at the age of 82. He is remembered for his memorable performances in Gujarati cinema and television, particularly his legendary portrayal of Ravana in Ramayan.
