Biography

Adam Jack is a Canadian writer/director whose work blends character-driven comedy with emotional honesty. He graduated from the Los Angeles campus of the New York Film Academy in 2003 before returning to Ontario, where he wrote, produced, and directed the teen dramedy pilot 4 Years to Life. The project premiered at a prom-themed event at Toronto’s Scotiabank Theatre-where, to his surprise, representatives from YTV, CTV, CBC, and Family Channel all attended. This led to multiple network meetings and a development deal with CTV under their Writer Only Program.

Shortly after, Jack signed with an agent and became one of the youngest members ever admitted to the Writers Guild of Canada. Over the next five years, he pitched extensively across the industry and secured several development deals with companies including Barna-Alper Productions and Epitome Pictures. Despite consistent interest in his voice as a writer, none of the projects ultimately moved forward to series, and he found himself repeatedly stalled short of a greenlight. Disillusioned but still creatively driven, Jack stepped away from film and television and spent several years writing graphic novels. From 2013 to 2017, he ran a small-press comic publishing company, though the increasing business demands eventually pulled him away from the creative work he loved most.

During the pandemic-and with the impending birth of his first child-Jack made a deliberate decision to return to filmmaking. He wrote eight feature scripts during this period, ultimately self-financing and crowdfunding $12,000 to produce The Lurker. The film went on to win over 75 awards on the international festival circuit, reestablishing him as a filmmaker to watch. Later that same year, an investor-impressed by what Jack achieved on such a small budget-approached him to fund a second feature. With a $40,000 investment, Jack wrote and directed Jackknife, which screened at numerous festivals, including the Beyond Hollywood Film Festival. There, he reunited with his former film school roommate Matty Cardarople (Stranger Things, Free Guy), sparking a new creative partnership.

That collaboration led to A Farewell to Youth, which Jack wrote with both himself and Cardarople in mind as leads. The film premiered on the festival circuit and went on to win multiple awards, including First Prize for Best Comedy Feature at the Rhode Island International Film Festival.
