- Manmauji, whose real name was Ram Mohan Mishra, was born in Dubeypur, Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. He is a veteran Indian comedy actor who began his film career in 1975. Over the decades, he became one of the most recognizable faces in Hindi cinema, earning a place in the Limca Book of Records for appearing in more than 1,000 films and holding the distinction of portraying the highest number of bald characters on screen.
A diploma holder in textile engineering from the Government Textile Institute, Kanpur, he moved to Mumbai in 1972 and worked in the textile industry before entering films by chance. His break came when legendary comedian Mehmood, impressed by his wit and mimicry, recommended him for a role in Naukar (1979). In 1977, while being cast in Darinda, he was asked to shave his head for the part - a look that became his trademark.
Renowned for his comic timing, Manmauji became a familiar face in popular Hindi cinema, appearing in hits such as The Burning Train (1979), Khiladi (1992), and Baazigar (1993). His work also reached international audiences with his role in Ismail Merchant's The Deceivers (1988), alongside Pierce Brosnan and Shashi Kapoor.
In 2012, he took on one of his most demanding roles, portraying an Anna Hazare-inspired activist in Main Nahin Anna, earning critical praise for his serious performance. A favorite of filmmaker David Dhawan, he remains admired for his humility, versatility, and lasting contribution to Indian cinema.
