Biography

Born in 1955 in Birmingham Mark trained at Stratford college of FE under Gordon Vallins before training at Birmingham School of Speech and Drama. Left after one year to tour with Marius Goring(1974) . He then joined the Oxford Playhouse under Nick Kent and Derby Playhouse with Mark Woolgar and the Belgrade Theatre Coventry.. After his stint with rep companies did fringe work in London and Edinburgh...then moved on to film work. In 2024 Mark played Odin in the medieval fantasy film The Barn working alongside Kate Winslet.The film has gone on to win many International awards. Mark is married to Annie and lives in Sussex. His eldest son James is a film producer, middle son Chris was lead guitarist with Flies Are Spies From Hell an acclaimed post rock band,.. playing with new band Winter At Sea... and youngest son Tom is a builder.

Fell on stage once and danced with Captain Beefheart and his magic band.

While with the Actors Refuelling Company in London read poems to Pete Townsend of The Who. Also at that time, 1976, worked with Margret Drabble and Sir William Empson on the poets Wordsworth and Coleridge.

In the mid 70s, shared a squat with Sid Vicious in Lutton Terrace Hampstead.

In 1975 Lindsay Anderson offered Mark a job as his assistant at the Royal Court Theatre, but Mark declined as he wanted to continue his work as an actor. He was then auditioned by Jon Ploughman to work at The Court as an actor and was offered work, but Equity declined this as he was at the time not a full member of the union.
