Biography

Sean Miyashiro

Mini bio

  • Sean Miyashiro is the executive producer of the soundtrack to "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" (2021), one of the biggest hits of 2021 and the first superhero film featuring an actor of Asian descent (Simu Liu) in a lead role.

Thanks to his deep connections within the international Asian hip-hop community, Miyashiro's soundtrack was widely hailed as a breakthrough for the sub-genre. It featured a number of up-and-coming artists and led to a blockbuster deal with Sony Pictures TV.

Miyashiro has additional soundtrack credits, including the Rich Brian track "Kids" on the soundtrack to "The Invisible Man" (2020), a supernatural thriller starring Elizabeth Moss. He is the executive producer of the music video for "Kids," released in 2019. Also in 2019, Miyashiro produced and released "Asia Rising: The Next Generation of Hip Hop" in partnership with Red Bull and his multi-platform production company 88rising.

Recently, Sean Miyashiro has transitioned into feature film production. His first full-length film debuted at the 2023 Sundance film festival.

Miyashiro has earned considerable recognition for his music and film production work. Recent accolades include a 2021 "Changemaker" award at the Unforgettable Gala, one of the biggest showcases for Asian and Pacific Islander (API) individuals who've helped to increase API representation in entertainment, arts, and culture. Sean Miyashiro has been interviewed or featured in several high-profile national and international publications, including the New Yorker, National Public Radio, Billboard, Business Insider, and the New York Times.

Founded in 2015, 88rising has a growing record label that has worked with some of the biggest global Asian musical artists, including NIKI, Rich Brian, Jackson Wang, Joji, and more. The company has offices in Los Angeles and Shanghai and serves artists from China, the United States, Indonesia, and beyond.

Miyashiro and 88rising also produce the annual Head In The Clouds music festival, a showcase of up-and-coming and established talent in pop, hip-hop, and R&B. Head In The Clouds has expanded beyond its initial Los Angeles location and now has festivals in New York City as well as international locations in Jakarta and Manila. Its hour long "Head In The Clouds Forever" set at Coachella 2022 featured a surprise reunion of K-Pop superstars 2NE1.
