Philip Martin(XXXIV)

Born and raised in the North East of England, Philip grew up in a local video store, where his mother worked. He used to spend a lot of time in the back office in front of the test TV and Video watching all varieties of movies.
A B-Movie horror fan, he first picked up a camera (an early nineties Samsung DV recorder) and shot an array of amateur shorts with his childhood friend. Script-writing at a young age began with him copying word-for-word dialogue from some of his favorite movies (such as Alien) and learning how to format them properly.
He took a long hiatus, throughout his twenties, from the filmmaking world, but would make an unexpected return once he hit 30, by purchasing a Canon 550D DSLR, with the intended use being photography with his family. After learning of the game-changing impact the Canon 5D mkii had on the amateur filmmaking world he found himself acquiring a used iMac and learning the editing ropes on Final Cut Pro X.
After a few music videos and short films he began to grow his network and capabilities and eventually completed his first meaningful short film (Proteus) with long time collaborators, Mark Burns and Chris Iddon. He would then upgrade his tool kit from a Panasonic GH3 and GH4 to Canon's entry level cinema camera, the C100, and complete a few more shorts (The Heat Is On, The Road).
It was around this time that his writing was becoming more prominent in his filmmaking activities, particularly when juggling a regular day job and family life, as more time was available for it. He then met fellow collaborator Daniel Patrick Vaughan, a seasoned cinematographer, where they would produce the award-winning short film, Adéla, starring Julia Rogers, Ged Purvis, and Chris Iddon. The pair would follow this up with modern revenge thriller, Wild (Stephanie Cubello, Dean Bone, Matt Shaw). These projects allowed Philip to move away from the camera and concentrate on directing.
With future projects in play for himself and Daniel, Philip still retains a lower key interest in cinematography and has ventured again into the music video world with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera line, collaborating with local artist Jenny Lascelles on two videos (House on a Hill, and Dying 2 Get 2 U). This would be followed up with the surreal Lex Meridian (2022).
He has most recently wrapped on short film "Ruin", with the assistance of Rikki Kimpton, and starring Darren James King, Stephanie Cubello, and Lee Jackson.
