Captained New Zealand in 80 tests, winning 28 of them as well as 138 ODIs, winning 70 including the finals of the 2000 ICC Knockout at Nairobi, Kenya which as of December 2022 remains New Zealand's only ICC trophy in the shorter format. Was also the captain his team when it reached the semi-finals of the 1999 and 2007 World Cups.
