Biography

Tianyuan He is a director and scriptwriter who grew up in Beijing, China. She received her master's degree from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, and her bachelor's degree from University of Texas at Austin. In 2014, she directed the short film"5 Days with Her"and later received the Best Mobile Film Award at New York India Film Festival, which is also widely known as the "Indian Oscar". In 2018, the feature film "The Commitment",which was also the first feature film she wrote, was selected by the Montréal World Film Festival. It became the only Chinese film up for the Grand Prix des Amériques other than "Dying to Survive". It eventually received the Special Mention Award from the Montréal World Film Festival, Best Fiction from the 17th Lily Award Festival, and many other awards from the 5th San Francisco International New Concept Film Festival. In 2019, Tianyuan was invited to be a speaker at the academic forum of "Her power in Images" at Beijing International Film Festival. And since the year of 2021, by the invite of Oscar-winning director István Szabó, Tianyuan has become the judge of the Shoot4Earth Film Marathon Competition. She was also the only judge with Asian ethnicity. In 2016, Tianyuan founded the "Film Eating Monster", a film club that holds filmmaking workshops and screenings. She also invited professors from NYU to give lectures in China. The club has become an important bridge for the Chinese filmmakers to further develop their skills and communicate with the audience.
