Jaydon Oscar-James Merrick was born on November 3, 1999 in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia, to Sally-Anne (Westman), a florist, and Bill James Merrick, an Antarctic expeditioner, both originally from rural Australia. He began performing on stage during his high school years in productions with Tamworth Dramatic Society and Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), while training with Trinity College London. In 2019, he moved to London, graduating from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2022. His stage credits include The Making of Frederick the Great (2023, Larkey Kindred Productions), in which he played Francis, and most recently Count Paris in Romeo and Juliet (2026) with Putney Theatre Company, directed by Tom Sainsbury.
