Biography

Beatrix von Storch is descended from the House of Oldenburg on her father's side.

She is the eldest daughter of the civil engineer Huno Duke of Oldenburg (* 1940) and his wife Felicitas (* 1941), née Countess Schwerin von Krosigk. She grew up with her sister Sophie (* 1972) in the municipality of Kisdorf in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Segeberg.

Her grandfather, and also the grandfather of Wilfried Schwerin von Krosigk, was Johann Ludwig Graf Schwerin von Krosigk, who served as Reich Minister of Finance 1932-1945, and was convicted as a war criminal in 1949. Her other grandfather was the last hereditary Grand Duke Nikolaus von Oldenburg,a member of the NSDAP and the SA. She has been married to Sven von Storch since October 2010. The couple has no children. Von Storch is a Protestant.

After graduating from high school in Kaltenkirchen in 1990 and training as a bank clerk in Hamburg, she studied law at Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg and the University of Lausanne. She passed the First State Examination in Law in Heidelberg, and completed her legal clerkship in Brandenburg. She has lived in Berlin since 1998. After the second state examination in 2001, she was admitted to the bar and specialized in insolvency law. In 2008, she worked for the commercial law firm Voigt & Scheid Rechtsanwälte and after its dissolution on January 1, 2009 in the law firm Voigt Salus. In 2011, according to a Tagesspiegel report, she gave up her work as a lawyer for insolvency law and lived off savings in order to devote herself fully to her political activities.
