Fred Neil was born on March 16, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Fred was a writer and composer, known for Crank (2006), Forrest Gump (1994) and Midnight Cowboy (1969). Fred died on July 7, 2001 in Summerland Key, Florida, USA.

Wrote songs for Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison.

Host of the hootenannies at Cafe Wha? in 1960s Greenwich Village.

Served in the United States Navy.

Grew up in St Petersburg, Florida.

Co-founded the Dolphin Research Project in 1970.
