Biography

Anderz Harning, born 1938 in Stocka, Hudiksvall, was a Swedish author, journalist and literature critic. He was the son of ship-broker Hjalmar Harning and Margit Anna Elvira Westling. Anderz Harning began higher studies at the Latin program but dropped out and instead enlisted on a cargo vessel to get a glimpse of the world. Back in Sweden he made his literary debut in 1961 with the political narrative "Fridagar/Holidays". Ten years later the autobiographical novel "Stålbadet/Austerity" (1972) became a success that made him read, well known and famous. With his next novel, "Asfåglarna/The Vultures" (1974), he was established as a great but a fierce and relentless kind of writer. The two novels were merged into the film "Ondskans år/The Year of Evil" (1987) directed by Humberto López y Guerra. Anderz Harning passed away in 1992 as a result of a fall injury.
