Biography

Pradeep Rawat was an Indian actor best known for portraying powerful villain and character roles across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, and English language films, making him one of the few actors to establish a successful pan Indian screen presence. He made his acting debut in Hindi cinema during the mid 1980s and gained nationwide recognition with his portrayal of Ashwatthama in B.R. Chopra's television series Mahabharat. Rawat later became one of Indian cinema's most sought after antagonists, especially in Telugu cinema after the blockbuster Sye (2004), which earned him the Filmfare Award, Nandi Award, and Santosham Award for Best Villain. In 2009, he was nominated for the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role for Ghajini (2008).

Throughout his career from 1983 to 2026, Rawat appeared in more than 250 films across multiple Indian film industries. He was known for his performances in Sarfarosh (1999), Lagaan (2001), Sye (2004), Bhadra (2005), Chatrapathi (2005), Ghajini (2005 Tamil and 2008 Hindi), 1:Nenokkadine (2014), Veeram (2014), Jilla (2014), Waltair Veerayya (2023), and Chhaava (2025).

Apart from films, he also appeared in several television productions, including Mahabharat, Chandrakanta, Tehkikaat, Yug, Gul Sanobar, and Mission Fateh.Pradeep Rawat passed away on 4 August 2026 in Mumbai after battling blood cancer. He is remembered as one of Indian cinema's most versatile and impactful screen villains, with a career that successfully spanned numerous languages and regional film industries.
