Father of actors Edward McWade and Robert McWade, Jr.

Veteran trouper whose career spanned 60 years.

Probably best remembered for the play Rip Van Winkle.

In the 1850s while employed at a varnish factory he performed in amateur production put on by the Detroit Thespian Society.

Two months after the American Civil War broke out he enlisted as a Private in the Union Army (Company C 40th New York Infantry). By June of the following year he had been promoted to Full 2nd Lieutenant. Less than 3 months later he received a disability discharge from the army.

Became an American citizen on 8 July, 1889.
