Biography

Nigam Bhandari is a Nepal-based filmmaker and producer whose work has screened internationally, including at Sundance, Berlinale, Busan International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and Palm Springs International Film Festival. He produced the Sundance short Song of Clouds (2020) and the Berlinale Kplus winner Jaalgedi (2017), and produced Kalam (2019), which premiered at Busan. He is an alumnus of Berlinale Talents (2019). A graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts’ Grad Film program, Bhandari has received support, including the Purin Foundation Fellowship and the Asian Cultural Council Graduate Fellowship (2023-2025), becoming the first recipient from Nepal. His feature project Messengers of the Gods was awarded at the West Meets East Screenplay Lab at the Dhaka International Film Festival. In 2026, he is in post-production on Men for War, a feature-length short about Nepali youth turning to mercenary work in pursuit of a way out, and is developing Edge of Thin Air, a thriller about a driver attempting the first heavy-lorry journey to a remote Himalayan village on a newly carved road cut into a fragile mountainside. When he isn’t writing, directing, or producing, he works as a production sound mixer, sharpening his technical craft on dozens of award-winning shorts, documentaries, and feature films. In between writing, directing, and producing, Bhandari can often be found on set, quietly working as a production sound mixer on dozens of short films, documentaries, and features.
