His conducting debut came when he was called in at the last minute to conduct the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in 2014. He was a member of that orchestra's percussion section from 2001 to 2013.
He becomes the music director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 2020.
