Biography

Zoë Flowers has the power to heal with her hands and words. Her poetry and essays can be found in Stand Our Ground; Poems for Trayvon Martin and Marissa Alexander, Dear Sister: Letters from Survivors of Sexual Assault, and the new anthology, Love WITH Accountability: Digging Up the Roots of Child Sexual Abuse. Her articles and interviews are in The Grio, Bloom Magazine, and several online journals.

In 2004, Zoë interviewed other survivors about their experiences with domestic/sexual violence. From Ashes to Angel's Dust: A Journey Through Womanhood is the book that emerged. Ashes - is the play adapted from stories chronicled in the book and has had many successful performances including Yale University's Fearless Conference, The White House's United States of Women Summit in 2016, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence's National Conference, Smith College, and Brown University.

As an Artist, Zoë creates films, theatrical productions, and books that invite audiences to explore social issues, healing, and spirituality in non-confrontational spaces. Her work has been presented at Yale University, Smith College, and Brown University and numerous conferences, theaters, and community-based organizations. In 2017, Zoë wrote and produced Rode an episodic show about a Black witch living in Brooklyn trying to break a family curse. In 2021, Zoë directed Thank You for Your Service a project she'd been working on since 2015. This film takes audiences on a journey through a day in the life of Jake, a Black Vietnam Veteran navigating the ever-changing landscape of Bedford-Stuyvesant Brooklyn.

In 2023 she wrote and directed Offering. Offering is an experimental short film that delves into the intersection of magic and climate justice, focusing on water. The film explores the idea of harnessing mystical forces to bring about positive change in the world and questions the purpose of magic if it fails to impact the pressing issues of our time.

Through a series of visually stunning and symbolic sequences, the audience witnesses the characters engaging in magical rituals focused on water as a healing methodology. The film questions whether mystical practices are merely a form of escapism or have the potential to impact the real world.
