Royce Buckingham is an American fantasy/horror/comedy writer with an English degree from Whitman College and a law degree from the University of Oregon.
Royce sold his first novel in 2006, the middle grade urban fantasy Demonkeeper, to Penguin, Putnam. His screenplay for Demonkeeper then sold to 20th Century Fox in a six figure deal. Demonkeeper hit the bestseller list in Germany for Random House as Damliche Damonen. Random House then commissioned a trilogy.
Since 2006, Royce has published fifteen novels with Penguin, St. Martin's Press, and Random House, worked for Xbox writing a videogame storyline, and has won multiple writing awards for novels and screenwriting. He became a best-selling author a second time in Germany with his medieval fantasy trilogy, Die Kart der Welt (Mapper).
Royce's latest series, Monster Lawyer, is an urban fantasy released by Blanvalet in Germany. The third installment is due for publication in September, 2025.
In addition to writing books, Royce served his community as a prosecuting attorney for a number of years. He now exclusively writes novels and screenplays (with Seattle's Green Room screenwriting collective) in Bellingham, Washington, where he lives with his family overlooking the islands of Puget Sound.
