Baby Langley

Born in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, Hilda Martha Garner joined with musical Huddersfield sisters Althea Mildred Langley (pianist) and Dorothy Beatrice Langley (singer) to form the Langley Sisters Trio (later known as The Three Prodigies). A natural comic and mimic, Hilda performed as the young "Baby Langley". The trio were advertised in "The Stage" (January 1915) as "A Great Discovery -- Three of the most Wonderful Sisters in Vaudeville".
Following the success of the short comic "Winky" films, Bamforth & Co. Ltd. of Holmfirth announced an expansion of their studios in March 1915, along with the hiring of extra comic performers including "Baby Langley" (whose character was usually named "Hilda" in the six films she appeared in), as well as Lily Ward and her husband Alf Scotty.
The Langley Sisters continued to perform on stage, although Hilda, perhaps unable to continue to pass herself off as a child, seemingly last performed as "Baby Langley" in December 1918.
She married John "Jack" Emmerson in 1926 and both were active in Huddersfield light operatic societies. Following her husband's death in 1956, she subsequently moved to South Africa.
