Amanda Boyle

Biography

Amanda Boyle

Biography

  • Amanda Boyle is a British director known for her bold, visually striking storytelling, often blending dark humor, quiet anarchy and a dreamlike sensibility across prime-time television, experimental/short films and commercials/branded content.

Her television work includes acclaimed series such as Chloe (2022) starring Emmy Award winner Erin Doherty, the cult classic Skins (2007), and the groundbreaking Cast Offs (2009). Her award-winning film work includes Skirt (2012), Pop Art (2008), and Hotel Infinity (2004), as well as the cinematic adaptation of the immersive play Kursk (2012).

Amanda often writes her films, which explore themes of grief, family dynamics and the body, moving fluidly between genre, fantasy and comedy. Her work is always performance-led. As a child, she acted in and directed her own plays; later, while studying Philosophy, she toured festivals with devised theatre productions. A love of improvised comedy still runs through even her more dramatic work.

Amanda began her career in production at Working Title Films, where she also started making short films that went on to win awards at international festivals and led to her first directing role in television.

Alongside her narrative work, she has directed award-winning commercials and has been named Best New Director at the British Arrows Craft Awards.
