Backing vocalist with the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd from December 1975 until October 20, 1977, when she was severely injured in the plane crash that killed three of the members of the band. Hawkins suffered a concussion, three cervical fractures, and facial injuries requiring plastic surgery. She was partially paralyzed and suffered permanent neurological damage.
