Biography

Wayan Palmieri is a filmmaker, editor, writer, and AI production leader with close to 30 years of experience across film, television, post-production, visual effects, stereoscopic 3D, immersive media, and emerging production technologies. Originally from Bali, he has built a global career working across Asia, Europe, Brazil, and the United States.

Palmieri spent nearly a decade at Marvel Studios, contributing to 25 feature films, multiple television projects, and more than 40 theatrical marketing campaigns across 3D, IMAX, and ScreenX formats. His Marvel credits include Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), and What If...? - An Immersive Story (2024), an Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality experience he edited.

Earlier in his career, Palmieri worked across major studio and entertainment projects for Paramount, Lionsgate, National Geographic, Fox, Sony, and Discovery, with credits including Noah, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Terminator Genisys, Insurgent, and Fantastic Four. He has also directed and edited music videos for artists including Bam Marley, Mystic Marley, MAGIC!, and Chip da Ripper, and contributed to projects for Sean Paul, Tiësto, AWOLNATION, Rod Stewart, Red Bull Records, DKNY, Samsung, and other major brands and artists.

Palmieri began working with artificial intelligence in 2019 and became an early creative leader in AI-driven filmmaking and generative production workflows. After leaving Marvel in 2025, he helped build the production side of Kartel AI, leading AI production teams and developing scalable pipelines for AI-assisted image, video, VFX, previs, and production execution. His AI-related creative work includes the music videos Sunflower Fields and Ocean Ocean, as well as the short film If Pigs Could Fly.

He now leads Trained to Imagine, an AI-native talent and production company representing artists, directors, filmmakers, and creative technologists working at the intersection of cinema, VFX, and artificial intelligence. He is also developing ProvaVault, a platform focused on provenance, approvals, retention, cost tracking, and chain-of-custody for AI-generated image and video assets.

Palmieri’s connection to visual effects also runs through his family history: his great-grandfather was a Golden-Era Hollywood matte painter, linking classical cinematic craft with the emerging tools shaping the next era of filmmaking. He is a member of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, Local 700.

Wayan is the great-grandson of Johannes ("Hans") Bartolowsky, an artist and Hollywood notable who worked in the early days of special effects during the first half of the 20th Century, known for his skills as a glass painter as well as designing and creating film sets. Beginning with the silent movies, he worked for many years as a special effects artist for Cecil B. DeMille.

Bartholowsky started working in 1918 at the Lasky Studios when the glass shot technique was in use. He also worked as scenic artist for Paramount during the thirties. He latter became matte artist working at Columbia studio until he moved across to Warner Brothers probably some time in the early forties to work under Byron Haskin.
