Biography

  • Jeff Zimmerman (as Geoff Zimmerman) is an American cinematographer and somewhat of a renaissance man. He was raised in the rural region of central California and grew up passionate about visual arts. "I loved paintings and photography but especially great black and white images created by notable cinematographers from the golden era of Hollywood." After college, Geoff had been living and traveling in Europe for several years and managed to get work as a model, actor and stunt person in France. Returning stateside he decided to seek practical training garnered by working for lighting and camera rental firms and in the beginning moonlighting on various freelance jobs that would eventually lead to work behind a camera.

The real breakthrough came along in the mid 1980's with advent of MTV. Music production companies were being created to feed the insatiable demand for music videos. Every band on the planet had to have one. The record companies were churning them out weekly with a big demand for crew. Geoff quickly moved to the forefront working with top tier producers, directors and many top pop, rock r&b and rap artists. Music videos were known as visually cutting edge, fertile ground for experimenting and had a huge influence on mainstream advertising and feature films.

Geoff's other life long passion is motorsports. As a youngster, his father was president of the go kart club, so he was out at the local track at an early age. He's raced sports cars and been working on his own and other peoples vintage vehicles as long as he can remember. When YouTube hit the internet he merged motorsport and film making to launch the successful channel Checkered Flag Films.

Notably, in 2004 Geoff was a cinematographer for the Oscar winning short documentary: Mighty Times: The Children's March.
