Biography

Irina Porokhovschikova was born on December 14, 1962 in the USSR. She was an actress, known for Tsenzuru k pamyati ne dopuskayu (1992) and 9 maya (1987). She was married to Aleksandr Porokhovshchikov. She died on March 10, 2012 in Moscow, Russia.

She was a Soviet-Russian theatrical critic, editor, journalist and actress.

Was born in the family of a hereditary military man. Her father was the nephew of Marshal Zhukov.

Since 1980, she worked as a costumier at the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theater where she met her future husband Aleksandr Porokhovshchikov in 1981. They were together for 31 years and were married for nearly 17 years until her tragic death in 2012 at the age 49. They had no children neither together or in previous relationships.

On March 10, 2012, Irina committed suicide by hanging at her Moscow house at the age 49. Porokhovschikova reportedly was depressed because of her personal problems including deaths of her mother and dog as well as her husband Aleksandr Porokhovshchikov's health problems related to diabetes and stroke. She decided to commit suicide a few hours after receiving news from the hospital about her husband's worsened condition. Just before suicide, she called her family lawyer Sergey Zhorin and friend Olga Simonova. Irina warned Olga about her suicide plans and asked her to take care of her dog after her death. Simonova called the police to friend's house but it was too late to save her. Porokhovschikova was found hanged by the police which also found her suicide letter in which she asked not to blame anyone in her death. She was buried on March 10, 2012, at Vagankovskoye Cemetery near to her parents. A month after her tragic death, on April 15, 2012, her widower Aleksandr Porokhovshchikov has died at the age of 73. He never knew that his wife had died as it was decided not to tell him because of his poor health but he suspected something bad and often crying and asking his wife to come in his last weeks of life.
