Biography

Joe Yule was born on April 30, 1892 in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. He was an actor, known for Jiggs and Maggie Out West (1950), Jiggs and Maggie in Court (1948) and Bringing Up Father (1946). He was married to Leota Hullinger and Nell Ruth Waite "Nellie W." Carter. He died on March 30, 1950 in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA.

Father of Mickey Rooney. Father-in-law of Martha Vickers and Ava Gardner, among others. Grandfather of, among others, Teddy Rooney and Tim Rooney.

Fought with the U.S. Army in France during World War I.

Former burlesque and vaudeville entertainer who played Hollywood character roles from the late 1930s until his death. He and his wife, Nell Ruth "Nellie W." Carter, a chorus girl and dancer, formed a family vaudeville act which quickly included their only child, son Mickey Rooney, who began performing when he was about a year old. The act and the marriage broke up two years later. Yule later remarried to Leota Hullinger, who survived her husband.

Joe Yule was the son of Ninian Yule (1866-1943, born Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland, died New York) and Elizabeth "Bessie" (née McKell) Yule (1863-1919; born Springburn, Lanarkshire, Scotland); both of Joe Yule's parents died in New York.
